- The Feynman techniue:
This technique involves explaining a concept in simple terms. It means to explain something by acting like you’re teaching someone else. You could take a concept you’re struggling with and explain it in your own words. When you realize there are a few gaps in what you know, review those areas. They are areas that need further understanding and improvement. Repeat the explaining process till you understand the concept clearly. Refine your explanation and create a mind-map that summarises all the points. This process can be adapted for any subject. - The Promodro technique:
It is a time-management method that involves breaking down work into 25 minute blocks (Pomodoros) with 5 minute long breaks afterwards. Pick a single, specific task you need to work on so you can focus better during each Pomodoro session. Avoid all distraction as the goal is to stay immersed in your work. If a distraction arises, quickly jot it down on a notepad to address later, then refocus on your work. You can modify the work intervals to suit different types of work or attention spans. - Spaced Repetition:
It is a highly effective learning technique based on reviewing material at increasing intervals over time. By revisiting information just as youโre about to forget it, spaced repetition helps you build long-term retention and prevents the need for last-minute cramming. Itโs especially useful for subjects that involve memorization, such as vocabulary, historical dates, medical facts, or formulas.Review intervals start short and get longer each time you recall the information correctly. Each time you successfully recall the information, you increase the interval until the next review.During each review session, test yourself instead of passively re-reading notes. The act of actively recalling the information strengthens memoryIf a concept is easy, you can extend the interval between reviews. For difficult concepts, shorten the interval to reinforce understanding more frequently.
Consistency is Key: These techniques only work best if you study frequently. Rather than cramming for exams, a consistent study schedule allows for spaced repetition, which improves retention and understanding.
